South Asian Bands Festival 2011 Gets Dated, Lineup

The South Asian Bands Festival is an annual three-day music festival held in New Delhi. Organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, and Seher, the multi-genre-spanning event takes place every year at Purana Qila, New Delhi, and features bands from all the SAARC countries. Last year, bands like Mrigya, Ankur & The Ghalat Family, Indus Creed, Thermal And A Quarter, and Kailasa performed. This year, the festival will be held between December 2-4 and features a lineup which includes Pakistani singer-songwriter duo Zeb & Haniya (who are currently on tour in India, and who feature in an episode of The Dewarists), Kochi alt rockers Motherjane and Bollywood music producers Salim Sulaiman.

Performances start at 6pm everyday. Dates and lineup below.

This December is packed with music festivals. The South Asian Bands Festival is an annual three-day music festival held in New Delhi. Organized by ICCR (who brought down Israeli rock act Rockfour last month) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, and Seher, the multi-genre-spanning event takes place every year at Purana Qila, New Delhi, and features bands from all the SAARC countries. Last year, bands like Pentagram, Faridkot, and The Raghu Dixit Project performed.

This year, the fourth edition of the festival, the lineup includes recently reunited Indus Creed, Mrigya, Bangalore rock act TAAQ, Mumbai poprock project Ankur and the Ghalat Family and also the Mekaal Hassan Band from Pakistan – who will hopefully get a visa this time.

Performances start at 6 pm every day.

South Asian Bands Festival Dates, Lineup

The South Asian Bands Festival is an annual music festival held in New Delhi. Organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and Seher, the three-day affair sees bands from the SAARC countries perform at the Purana Qila in the capital. The lineup has consistently been pretty solid, at least with respect to Indian acts; last year’s bill (for an event that happened this year in February) included Shaa’ir + Func (watch video of their performance), Swarathma and Skinny Alley.

This year’s lineup maintains the QC, but throws in a surprise as well. Here’s the list

That’s right. Opening Day two of the event is Shillong’s best Wheatus cover band/Soulmate side project The Afflatus. Here’s why their inclusion is perhaps a bit odd. Apart from that though the lineup is pretty good, and this should be a fun winter event for Delhi folks.

South Asian Bands Festival Gets A Website, Lineup

The South Asian Bands Festival is a three day music festival organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (the same peeps who took The Raghu Dixit Project on a mini world tour) in New Delhi. The event will see 14 acts take stage at the Talkatora Gardens between Feb 20-22.

The (sweet) lineup for the festival is

Feb 20: Them Clones, Agnee, Miles (Bangladesh), Aryan (Afghanistan), Jasbir Jassi
Feb 21: Soul Sounds (Sri Lanka), Skinny Alley, Who’s Your Daddy (Bhutan), Shaa’ir + Func, Parikrama
Feb 22: Trio (Maldives), Swarathma, Robin & The New Revolution (Nepal), Vishal-Shekhar

The festival is the sequel to 2007′s SAARC Bands Festival which saw performances by, among others, Advaita, Strings (Pakistan), Indian Ocean and The Raghu Dixit Project. No news of tickets just yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
