New Delhi alternative act Another Vertigo Rush closed Rocktoberfest with a gig at Cafe Morrison. We were there.

Notes

The final day of Rocktoberfest in the capital saw a gig (w/Advaita, Thermal & A Quarter, others) at the Garden of Five Senses, before wrapping up with a set by Another Vertigo Rush at Cafe Morrison.
The TFA Music Award winners performed material from their debut album Murphy’s Law at a crowded Morrison, though we couldn’t find too many folks who’d made the trip from the earlier gig that concluded a couple of hours earlier.
AVR’s music is largely instrumental, effects-heavy alternative that’s easy to like.
What’s not however is frontman Viraj Mohan’s occassional vocal excursions on songs that would otherwise be fine without them.
This was a pretty short set.

Rocktoberfest played out over three days at the Garden of Five Senses in New Delhi. Lazy River, FIVE8, Advaita and Thermal & A Quarter played the final day. We were there.

Notes

The Garden of Five Senses is a beautiful outdoor venue for gigs. Think the Bandra Amphitheatre in Mumbai, only with more garden. You have to walk through a jungle adventure maze to finally get there though.
The three free pints of beer with the Rs 400 entry ticket was a genius idea. Made better by the fact that after 9.30pm, Kingfisher announced an open bar. In Delhi. (okay, that was a low blow)
Lazy River would find easy employment at a yuppie, alt pub where their brand of no-brainer, twee rock would fit right in with the moderately overpriced French fries and Carlsberg.
FIVE8 claim to be ‘glam’ but their trappings are more ’80s hair/hard rock.
Advaita in New Delhi > Advaita in Mumbai
Thermal & A Quarter were efficient, but without regular bassist Rzhude David, seemed to lack their usual energy. We caught them at one of the best gigs of the year so far at the Blue Frog recently, but more on that later.
Another Vertigo Rush closed Rocktoberfest at Cafe Morrison after this gig. Pics and notes from there coming soon.

Rocktoberfest Dates, Lineup Announced

RSJ’s other big October gig Rocktoberfest returns for its sixth edition this year at the end of the month. Rocktoberfest, which is usually a series of pub gigs, takes a more conventional festival form this year. The three day affair at the Garden of Five Senses in New Delhi sees two stages and a club gig every night. The lineup includes several top Indian indies including Da-Saz, Skinny Alley, Thermal & A Quarter and Faridkot (pictured).

Rocktoberfest comes just a week after RSJ’s Great Indian Rock (whose website has finally been fixed). Tickets for the Rocktoberfest at Rs 400 a pop per day, which includes three pints of Kingfisher. For more details, check out the event’s Facebook page.
