Prithvi Theatre Festival ’09 Gigs Lineup

The Prithvi Theatre Festival ’09 will see, apart from a lot of theatre, a bunch of gigs as well. The festival, which runs from November 7-20, will feature a whole week of gigs that will take place at the Horniman Circle in south Bombay between 6.45-7.45pm. The gigs are largely singer-songwriter affairs with performances by, among others, Ankur Tewari (pictured), Zomb (ex-Metakix frontman) and Dischordian (pictured above).

The festival will also see a production of the newly titled Sridhar/Thayil opera noir, The Flying Wallas on Friday, Nov 13. The opera is

a lyrical conversation between a soprano and a ghost about God, murder and showbiz

Indiecision’s picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Fresh and toasty.
Mumbai
One wishes every week in Mumbai had this much variety in terms of live performances on offer. Kick off Tuesday with French rock act Kwak at the Blue Frog. The band is on a pretty vast tour of the country that kicks off at the Blue Frog. The Groovebox recently interviewed the band for TimeOut Mumbai. Entry after 9pm is Rs 300.

Head to Not Just Jazz By The Bay on Wednesday for humor-metal act Workshop. The band is smarting smartly after the release of their debut album Khooni Murga, and look to put another successful gig at Churchgate’s pride behind them. Here’s a free download of their single ‘Cookie Monster’.

Shillong’s blues babies Soulmate kick off a national tour with a gig at the Blue Frog on Thursday, June 11. The band is releasing its debut album Moving On (album cover left) and undertaking a bharat darshan of reasonable proportion in support of the same.

New Delhi

It’s a quiet week in the capital for gigs. DJ Batuta spins his magic at Baci on Thursday. We caught him earlier this year at a D.E.S.U. gig at Cafe Morrison with DJ Garreth and Kirti Das and came away reasonably impressed.

Mumbai electronica act Bay Beat Collective kick off their BassMental tour at Cafe Morrison on Friday, June 12. The act will go on to perform in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore in the coming weeks. Details.

Bangalore

Trivandrum rock act Aum hit Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday night. Check out some of their tunes here.

Kwak (see Mumbai) hit Bangalore on Saturday, June 13 at the Indo-French Cultural Centre, after their stop in Pune on Thursday. If French rock bands singing in French is not your cup of tea, head to Opus to catch Soulmate on the Bangalore leg of their tour.
