The festival will take place at Bandra’s Mehboob Studio this February.
On December 20, a possible lineup for the 2014 edition of the Mahindra Blues Festival was released on Rolling Stone India at this page that went 404 pretty soon after. Part of the big announcer was that Tedeschi Trucks Band, fronted by virtuoso electric blues and slide guitar player Derek Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi would be performing (there are confirmed dates for Mumbai listed on the TTB website). Also in the announcement was Jimmie Vaughan (pictured), brother of the legendary SRV, who would also be performing at Mahindra Blues in February along with childhood friend, frequent Eric Clapton bandmate and Arc Angels guitarist Doyle Bramhall II.
Today, after this update from Mahindra Blues Festival’s Facebook page, we can assume that all of the above and more will bring a dose of some top-drawer blues to the Bay City in February. Along with heavyweights like the Tedeschi Trucks Band and Jimmy Vaughan, also reportedly flying in to Mumbai for the festival are Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials led by Chicago slide guitarist Lil’ Ed Williams, and lastly, highly rated Mississippi bluesman Zac Harmon.
Repping the national scene at Mahindra Blues this year are Shillong’s Soulmate and Blackstratblues. Soulmate will reportedly release their long-awaited third album at the festival. We caught them last delivering a top performance at the fourth Bacardi NH7 Weekender of the year in Kolkata (pictures) and if that last show was anything to go by, February’s show, where they’ll be showcasing a brand new set. Warren Mendonsa’s Blackstratblues project that features Adi Mistry on bass, Jai Row Kavi on drums and Bevan Fonseca on keys will close out one of the healthiest blues lineups we’ve seen in India in recent years – a welcome mix of virtuosic foreign and local blues talent, both young and old.
