Above & Beyond, Booka Shade, Benny Benassi, BT and more will play Vh1 Supersonic 2013 in Goa this December.
LIVE Viacom 18 and Nikhil Chinapa have made good on their promise of the five-day-long dance event in Goa, effectively quashing various rumours of venues, date changes and cancellations altogether. Vh1 Supersonic is what the new festival is called (rolls off the tongue rather nicely too) and it’ll be held in Candolim Beach from December 26 – December 30, at the erstwhile venue of Sunburn Festival, which is now likely being held in the southern half of the sunny state.
Social media chatter surrounding #GoSupersonic has been rampant for the last 24 hours, blazing on the heels of Friday’s 6pm lineup announcement. In a tweet put out by Vh1 Supersonic 2013’s festival director Nikhil Chinapa on Friday afternoon (read more about his vision here), there seems to be a suggestion that peers and friends are scheduled to play the five-day-long, year-end dance festival. That really isn’t much information since Chinapa probably counts some of dance music’s biggest icons among his friends. UPDATE: It’s just past 6pm on Friday and part of the lineup for Vh1 Supersonic 2013 has been revealed check it out below.

Now geared towards instilling a spirit of community through music, something that’s increasingly absent from music festivals of the recent past, Vh1 Supersonic aims to give die-hard, forward-thinking dance music fans an experience like no other. Insomniac Events, the hands and heads behind the mythical Electric Daisy Carnival and Beyond Wonderland and multiple dance events in major American and European cities, will work closely with LIVE Viacom 18 to put the festival together and hope to deliver some top drawer sound and production. The festival will definitely have more than just music on offer, and will see art installations, wind-down zones (life’s not always a beach), a flea market, beach sports, even solar-powered stalls and some great food to boot. And it all promises to be safe and sound, free of the kind of riff-raff-BS that’s given dance music festivals a bad rap over the last couple of years.
According to LIVE Viacom18’s business head Jaideep Singh, the Chief Minister of Goa and the Goan government have reached out to collaborate over not just one Vh1 Supersonic, but four big events in the state over the course of a year. Singh hopes to “move towards establishing Goa as the ultimate music destination on the global music map.” Your move, Sunburn.
