There’s a lot happening in the world of Indian indie music and culture every day. Here’s our pick of the daily news, served up in one handy spot. This is your Quick Fix.
Eccentric Pendulum release video previewing new material
Bangalore progressive metal band Eccentric Pendulum (pictured) have released a video featuring guitarist Arjun Mulky and drummer Vibhas Vekatram jamming on a new song. The song is called ‘Tellurian Concepts’. Eccentric Pendulum’s last release was their 2011 debut album Winding The Optics. The band do seem to release new material every two years and might hopefully release a new EP/album by the end of the year. For now, check out ‘Tellurian Concepts’ below.
Prozpekt + Save The Children Release ‘Vijay’
Prozpekt is a rapper from New Delhi who raps about social issues and mixes hard-hitting lyrics with pop music. His song ‘Vijay’ is about a young guy called Vijay with no home and no money and the dire circumstances Vijay lives in. Vijay’s life is meant to be an allegory of the poor and disenfranchised in India and Prozpekt goes on to attack corrupt politicians through the song. The song is made in collaboration with Save The Children India, an NGO that helps at-risk children in the country. The effective video and Prozpekt’s device of telling a story using a singular subject that can connect with a wider audience is laudable. Watch the video below and check out Save The Children here.
