The American alt-rock band will make their India debut this month to celebrate The Northeast Today magazine’s sixth anniversary.
The Polo Ground in Shillong is set to host American alternative rock band Hoobastank on June 29. The gig is part of The Northeast Today’s sixth anniversary celebrations and the magazine has decided to name the tour, “The Reason Is Shillong” (stop giggling). If you had a passing interest in alternative-rock in the early 2000s, then you’ve probably come across Hoobastank’s ‘The Reason‘, which rose to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004 and did very well in countries such as Germany, Sweden and Australia while sitting on top of the charts in Canada for a then-record 21 weeks. They never hit the heights of The Reason again and over the last decade have released three more albums, Every Man For Himself (2006), Fornever (2008) and Fight or Flight (2011). While they’ve been a big-in-Japan sort of band for the last few years, it is safe to say that Hoobastank will be well received in Shillong, but you’ve gotta wonder why they aren’t coming to other cities to play for their fans?
Just picture it now, hundreds of couples hanging around the front of a packed Hoobastank gig in Bangalore or Delhi and when frontman Doug Robb finally sings ‘The Reason’, boyfriends can look into the eyes of their significant other and profess their undying love for them in song, because there is not better medium to profess undying love than song. However, Hoobastank have made their choice and well… the reason is Shillong. Details about the “tour” are rather thin on the ground so far with tickets available at “various outlets” for Rs 500. Check out the tour poster below.
