Radio City Freedom Awards nominees announced
Last month, national radio station Radio City announced their new initiative, the Radio City Freedom Awards, a platform that aims to recognise Indian independent music. Over the course of the last month, artists and bands from all over the country have submitted their entries, and the station has now released a shortlist of entries for public voting. The awards are divided into six categories, Best Hip Hop/Rap Artist, Best Pop Artist, Best Rock Artist, Best Folk Fusion Artist, Best Metal Artist and Best Electronica Artist. Nominees for the awards include Delhi soundsystem Reggae Rajahs, vocalist Benny Dayal, Punjabi folk rock artist Rabbi Shergill, young Mumbai pop-rock act Spud In The Box, Delhi alt-rockers Cyanide, Bangalore rock vets Thermal And A Quarter (read their story here), multi-instrumentalist Shankar Tucker, Mumbai metal group Providence, and Delhi electronica artist Dualist Inquiry. Public voting shuts on May 25, and you can cast your vote in each category here. The winners of the first Radio City Freedom Awards will be announced on May 30. OX7GEN EP launch gig announced
Mumbai drum n’ bass producer OX7GEN released his sophomore EP, An Ocean For Everyone, right here on NH7.in last week. You can speedily download An Ocean For Everyone for free here, or listen to it on NH7′s new Audiolizer interface here. The launch party for the two-track EP takes place on Tuesday, May 21 at Blue Frog, Mumbai. The night features a three-act lineup of some of the best experimental indie music being produced today, with sets by Raxit Tewari aka Your Chin, and Paralights, the solo project of producer Ayan De. The gig kicks off at 9.00pm, and entry will set you back is Rs 350. Also, check out a video for the EP below:
Indus Creed release Android app
The Mumbai rock veterans have released an Android app – the Indus Creed Superstar app, which should serve as a one-stop shop for all tr00 fans of the band. The app, developed by Appytunes, contains an extensive biography of the band, band portraits that can be used as wallpapers or what have you on your tablet or phone, song samples, and RSS feeds from the band’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, SongKick, Google news and SoundCloud pages.
