NDTV Good Times launches Music Voyager in India
NDTV Good Times has announced the Indian launch of their new show Music Voyager. The music and travel series explores various cities across India, Jamaica, Lousiana, Israel and Tennessee through their unique musical cultures. Hosted by ethnomusicologist Jacob Edgar, the series premieres on Indian television on May 16, and airs every Thursday and Friday on NDTV Good Times. The shows first three launch episodes see Edgar traveling in India and exploring the myriad musical sensibilities of the country. In the first episode, titled ‘Bollywood Adventures’, he visits the film industry in Mumbai and chats with Kailash Kher and Sona Mohapatra, discovering fusion music in Bollywood and looking for innovative music in the city. In ‘Gypsy Journey’, the next episode, Edgar travels to Rajasthan. The episode features performances by gypsy band Musafir and Jaipur Kawa Brass Band. The last episode shot in India is titled ‘Delhi Underground’, wherein the show explores Delhi’s indie and underground music scene. Through the episode, Edgar meets Rabbi Shergill, Indian Ocean and the East India Company. The show also features performance footage of a DJ set by Midival Punditz and Karsh Kale. Purple Fest gig series, Chennai, announced
Indie radio channel Chennai Live have relaunched their Purple Fest gig series. Purple Fest kicked off as a monthly gig series last year, but was shelved due to lack of sponsorship. The channel is now tying up with IndiEarth to relaunch the series as a fortnightly event, kicking off on May 17 at the Boardwalk, Ramada. The first edition features Chennai alt-rock trio Skrat (read our interview with them here), and the second, which is scheduled for May 31, will see a performance by blues act Blues Conscience. Vega Massive to play London gig
After playing a packed out debut gig at Blue Frog, Mumbai (pics), electro-rock act Vega Massive have traveled to London to take a three month course in singing, songwriting and production. The Mumbai outfit have just landed their first gig in London, and are scheduled to play at legendary Camden music venue The Dublin Castle, which has earlier hosted the likes of Blur, Coldplay, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys. Upcoming BOMB Thursdays lineups announced
Following BOMB Thursdays‘ Fresh Talent night which took place yesterday (May 9), the lineups for the next two editions of the fortnightly gig series have been announced. Check out a full lineup for the May 23 and June 6 editions of the series below:
BOMB Thursdays take place every alternate Thursday (duh) at Kino 108, Mumbai. Entry is Rs 200.
Indigo 91.9FM announces Neon Nights
Bangalore radio station Indigo 91.9 has just announced its newest venture, Neon Nights, marking Indigo’s foray into the realms of fashion and music, and taking place on May 11 at Marriot Whitefield, Bangalore. On the lineup are San Diego DJ Dallas Kandi and New York DJ Aaron James (who headlined KRUNK‘s fourth anniversary bash in Mumbai recently). The event also sees a fashion show with models including Carol Gracias, Parvathy Omanakuttam, and Chantelle Stander. Neon Nights are invite-only events, but you can score a spot on the guest list by participating in Indigo’s contests. Get more details about the event on Indigo 91.9′s Facebook page.
