Skyharbor to play UK Tech Fest 2013
Delhi prog-metal act Skyharbor are scheduled to play UK Tech Fest, an open air metal festival that’s set to take place from July 11 to 15. The festival lineup features British progressive metal band Tesseract, American deathcore act Veil Of Maya and UK act Monuments, among others, and will take place at The Plough in Peterborough. Skyharbor’s slot on July 12 will be a UK exclusive, the only gig that the band will play in the county. The band have had an excellent run over the last year, with the worldwide release of their debut album Blinding White Noise: Chaos And Illusion receiving excellent reviews (read our review here). Tickets for the festival can be bought here. Check out a poster below:
The Brewhouse Blues announced
Pune’s first all-blues music festival is scheduled to take place on April 6 at The 1st Brewhouse (Doolally), from 2pm onward. The event features a variety of blues acts and other bands from the region, including Work In Progress (featuring Aviv Pereira of Split), the Wendy Burby Quartet, the Kiran Amati Duo, Pune blues rock act Blackwings, and more. Since this is, after all, Doolally, the event will also highlight all the excellent beer which the pub is known for, including the Adam’s Folly (apple cider), Bee’s Knees (honey mead) and Colonial Hangover (India pale ale). Details about entry fees have not been announced yet, watch this space for more.
Sridhar/Thayil STill tour
While the genre-bending duo have been relatively inactive since the release of their debut album, STD (read our review here), they’re now embarking on a three city tour of the country. The STill tour kicks off tonight with a gig at Blue Frog, Mumbai, post which the duo will play a gig at the Delhi outlet of the club on March 28, and one at the Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival (check out a full lineup here) on March 30. The tour sees them collaborate with jazz musicians Tala Faral on sax and keys, and Vaibhav Waivikar (of Overdrive Trio) on percussion. Take a look at a very DIY tour poster below:
Bash @ Sitara Studios
Finally, another gig at Sitara! Bash, the brainchild of soon-to-be graduates of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, was conceived as a way to bid adieu to college life in a slightly less conventional way and takes place at Sitara Studios, Mumbai (which hosted the fully crowdfunded edition of Control ALT Delete last year), from 5.30pm onward on March 28. The evening has been programmed by KRUNK, and features sets by Ez Riser, OX7GEN, and DJ Amul, all of whom have been known to effectively bring down the house. Smash Up!, a recent party that featured sets by both Ez Riser and DJ Amul, also saw the smashing (almost) of a large speaker (pics), so it’s safe to say that Bash is a set up for an epic, um, bash. The event is open to everyone, and passes are available for sale for Rs 500 through Bash team members. No passes will be sold at the gate, so you’ll have to acquire one from the organising committee, whose contact details are available on the event’s Facebook page. Check out an event poster below:
