There’s a lot happening in the world of Indian indie music and culture every day. We thought we’d give you the pick of the daily news, served up right here in one handy spot. This is your Quick Fix.

Listen: Word Sound Power/Blood Earth Project – ‘Unity’
We spoke to Taru Dalmia aka Delhi Sultanate last year about his venture, Word Sound Power, that tells stories of people in India who have faced remarkable atrocities. The initiative, a collaboration with producer Chris McGuinness, fuses together revolutionary music and ideas from all over India with Dalmia’s dancehall poetry, McGuinness’ electronic music and documentary filmmaking. Word Sound Power have earlier worked with dalit poet Bant Singh (more on that here). Word Sound Power’s ongoing project, the Blood Earth Project, has just released a reworking of an Oriya track titled ‘Dongora Chadiba Nai’. The track was written and composed by dundka singer Bhagbana Majhi, who is also one of the leaders in the anti-mining movement against Utkal Aluminia. The recent release sees the original Oriya composition interspersed with Dalmia’s spoken word material, and makes for a compelling listen. You can also read the translated lyrics here.
