Malcolm Braff Trio to Tour India
Swiss jazz pianist and composer Malcolm Braff will be coming to India for a four city tour, this month. The pianist will be accompanied by Reggie Washington on bass and Stephen Galland on drums. The trio will kick off their tour at Blue Frog, Mumbai on March 13, moving on to a show in Goa on March 14 at Heritage Jazz. The trio will then visit Windmills Craftworks in Bangalore for two shows that will take place on March 15 and 16, ending with a show in New Delhi on March 17 at a venue that hasn’t been announced yet.

UnMute and Bonobo launch monthly residency night 303
UnMute Agency (who manage artists like B.L.O.T, Ash Roy and Kini Rao), along with Bonobo have launched a monthly residency night called 303. The property has been conceptualised with the intention of going “back to the basics from where contemporary electronic dance music found a definitive tool and a clear direction”. Currently, the property is only being held in Bandra (at Bonobo) but will extend to other cities soon. The first residency night will feature a set by Arjun Vagale. Find more details here.
Focus Photography Festival Announced
The Focus Photography Festival is apparently Mumbai’s first photo festival. The festival will see 22 exhibitions, three competitions, family workshops, talks and photo tours among other things. The festival will see exhibitions of photos of the city from 1840 to 1900, an exhibition celebrating contemporary women photographers, pin hole camera workshops and sessions with photographers such as Sooni Taraporevala. The festival will also host a number of open workshops and portfolio reviews. The events will be taking place between March 13 and March 27. Find complete details on the Focus Facebook page.
Smash-Up with Dualist Inquiry
Speaking of monthly nights, another event taking place in Mumbai will feature performances by the likes of Ez Rizer, AlgoRhythm and DJ Amul. The night is called Smash-Up and will be held at Smaaash, a new venue in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Smash-Up will be held on March 8 and kick off at 9:30 pm. The night will be curated by Dualist Inquiry (who also dropped a new single today, details here) and it will also feature a ton of other fun things like video games, sports simulators and obstacle courses, among other things.
