Monday’s Five at 5 with a secret surprise. Tune in.
The Indiecision Five at 5 is our attempt at sharing our musical tastes with you, and showcasing music from around the world. Each weekday at 5pm sharp, one NH7 writer or staffer will bring you five songs he/she is listening to on the day. Take a ride with Anuj Gupta today.
1. Shuffler – ‘Do Ya’
This one is for fans of the band Jamiroquai, beyond Jay Kay. Shuffler is a project started by Rob, Paul and Derek from Jamiroquai, with a recently released EP that was written mostly in hotel rooms while on tour with Jamiroquai.
2. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – ‘Returning’
This one’s my favourite “lyric video”. Since 2001, each time this band has released an album, it’s been on loop for months on my player (except the awful experiment that was The Effects of 333). Specter At The Feast lives up to my expectations.
3. Atoms For Peace – ‘Dropped’
Thom Yorke formed a band to tour his debut solo album and enlisted Flea and Nigel Godrich to be a part of it. They wrote a record, and it is mighty fine. The whole album can be streamed, guilt-free, below.
4. Birds Of Tokyo – ‘White Leaves’
I had the fortune of listening to this song on a drive with Ian Kenny of Karnivool from Pune to Bombay, last November. It was stuck in my head for the rest of week, and I now finally have the pleasure of sharing it with the rest of you.
5. Dr. Dog – ‘Do The Trick’
Dr. Dog is one of my absolute favourite discoveries of the last five years, on recommendation by Warren Mendonsa. I’ve not been allowed to post about the band in my previous Five at 5s as they haven’t had a release in the last 3 months. However, I’ve recently read that Norah Jones, who is touring India next week, is a huge fan of the band. Highly recommend checking out their 2008 album, Fate. And you must listen to Gomez too.
