The techno legend will be in the country soon to play shows in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi.
“Do you know who Richie Hawtin is?” is what I asked one of my coworkers recently. And he was like, “Yes.” And then I said, “Okay.” And then, for a few days, I didn’t really think about Richie Hawtin. Until today, when this happened.

So, Richie Hawtin, widely-considered as one of the original capos of techno music, will play his first ever series of shows in India this month. I repeat, Richie Hawtin, widely-considered as one of the original capos of techno music, will play his first ever series of shows in India this month.
For people who aren’t clued in, Richie Hawtin is one of the most influential among Detroit’s electronic artists and producers, has released 12 albums under his moniker Plastikman, a whole bunch of compilations, and has won more top accolades than most people can even imagine. Among them were Resident Advisor’s Best Intenational DJ and Best Live Act in 2010, DJ Awards’ Best Techno DJ in 2006, 2008 and 2010, and he was voted #2 Greatest DJ of All Time by MixMag.
Known for his intelligent minimal techno stylings around the world, and also as one of the flag-bearers of the Detroit techno and rave scene, Hawtin has played his music to packed audiences all over, starting with his early days championing rave music in the Michigan area (early-1990s), then at his legendary nights at clubs everywhere, all the way to his recent, 2012 summer residency titled ‘Enter’ at Space in Ibiza. Hawtin has toured the world relentlessly over this two-decade long career playing in clubs, at festivals, on beaches, pretty much everywhere, and the visit to India was presumably on his cards, considering the recent explosion of electronic music in the country.
And, in continuation of their hot streak of bringing some of the world’s best EDM DJs and producers to India (see Sunburn, MTV Bloc Party, plus Swedish House Mafia), Nikhil Chinapa and Submerge will now orchestrate an epic Richie Hawtin three-city tour of India. It could be likely that Hawtin will bring his ‘Enter’ live show to the country (fingers crossed), and if that happens, fans are in for a mind-blowing audio-visual experience. Check out the tour dates below.
February 21 – Royalty, Mumbai
February 23 – Blue Frog, Delhi
February 24 – Bangalore, TBA
