Age Of Calamity, Mumbai thrash metallers Sceptre’s second full-length album, will be released on February 15. Earlier this month, Sceptre debuted songs off their album at the Saltwater Creek Festival in Belapur (pictures), and today, the band released ‘Wrath Of God’ the first official single off Age Of Calamity.
‘Wrath Of God’ marks a slight departure from Sceptre’s tried and tested, Metallica-esque thrash, and it sees the band move into a territory that’s fortunately not thrash. The production really shines and the band sound tighter than they ever have. Lyrically, the song doesn’t have the most inventive lyrics, following the same old trope of a post-apocalypti
Sceptre’s Age Of Calamity was recorded last year at Demonic Studios with producer and demonstealer Sahil Makhija, and physical copies of the album are being readied for shipment when the album launches. According to bassist Janus Sanyal, the song was an apt choice for the album’s lead single because “it’s downright brutal and prepares listeners for what is in store on the album.”
Sceptre have recently returned to the stage after a long hiatus and lineup changes, and are now set to play two album launching gigs. The first one will be will be a headlining performance at Octaves, organized by the Vidyavardhini’s College of Engineering and Technology, on February 15 (details), and then a slot at Unchained 2013, part of RAIT’s college festival, Horizon, on February 17, along with bands like Inner Sanctum, Artillerie, and Providence.
