The Mumbai metallers head to Norway this March to play alongside the likes of Deicide, Satyricon and Purified In Blood.
In the recent past, Mumbai metallers Zygnema have played a small tour of Germany (read about it here), and also played the mecca of metal, Wacken Open Air festival in 2012 (more on that here). The band also played a much-appreciated set at Independence Rock XXVII (pictures), a slot at the rather misfortunate Salt Water Creek Festival (gallery), and at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2012 at the Blue Frog, Mumbai (gallery). Zygnema took away the award for Best Band and Best Song (‘Theory Of Lies And Negation’) at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards in 2o11 (pictures), and the band enjoys the kind of cult-like following across in the scene that not many indie metal bands can lay claim to.
And now, Zygnema are all set to visit Europe for the third time and play another festival date. This time around, they’ll be playing the Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo, Norway (March 27-30), and sharing the stage with artists like Deicide, Dark Funeral, Satyricon, Purified In Blood, Moonspell, Ghost, and more. Zygnema’s set is on Thursday, March 28 at 7.15pm at John Dee, one of the festival’s several club venues. The Inferno Metal Festival has seen a few Indian metal bands in the past, with Scribe and Demonic Resurrection having played there in 2010, Bhayanak Maut in 2011, and Undying Inc having repped India in 2012.
NH7 spoke with of Zygnema drummer Mayank Sharma about their impending trip to Norway
So as you probably know already, this is basically a cultural exchange thing at Inferno, where a band from India will go there and a band from Norway will come here. This year, we’ve been selected to represent India at Inferno in Norway. We have played Germany twice before and Germany was very receptive and Wacken was a big experience for us. We’ve heard a lot about the Norwegian crowd as well. After we announced that we were playing Norway, we got many congratulatory emails from people, and even posts from fans on our Facebook page congratulating us and asking us to bring our merch there. It’s great. We’re getting geared up and we’re quite stoked for it.
