We listen to a lot of music here at the NH7 office. The Indiecision Five at 5 is our attempt at sharing our musical tastes with you, and showcasing new music from around the world. Each day at 5pm sharp, one NH7 writer or staffer will bring you five songs he/she is listening to on the day. We hope you like them.

1. Kavinsky – ‘Protovision’
Kavinsky’s latest sounds a lot like ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, and if you’re the kind who likes to complain, complain about how all those mainstream 2012 pop hits sound alike (see here). It’s dark, with a thick and meaty bassline. Kavinsky continues to make music for deranged drivers, and of those, the world has no shortage.

2. Justice – ‘Presence’
The French electro-house duo dropped their Helix EP just a few days ago, and ‘Presence’, the third track off the release features great ’70s, prog-rock style organs and synths, followed by a drum track that is so Justice and so widely-dug, it could probably become a VST. Maybe it has already.

3. T.I. – ‘Sorry’ feat. Andre 3000
The original trap music flag-bearer dropped Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head in late 2012, pretty much after all those year-end lists came out. The album didn’t find its place among 2012′s stellar releases from the likes of Killer Mike and Kendrick Lamar, but a concentrated listen-through could have changed people’s minds.  You might like his style, you might not, but there’s no denying that Tip can spit. And, the absolutely killer verse from Andre 3000 takes this song to the next level.

4. Kendrick Lamar – ‘Backseat Freestyle’
The new Aftermath signing dropped what was one of 2012′s greatest albums regardless of genre, Good Kid M.A.AD City. The latest single off the album is ‘Backseat Freestyle’ and it’s one of the best tracks off the album, once you get tired of listening to the glorified collaborative tracks (okay, ‘Poetic Justice’ featuring Drake, has one of Drake’s best verses ever). Lamar’s definitely pulling out everything he can to bring gangster shit back to Compton.

5. Snoop Lion – ‘Lighters Up’ feat. Mavado and Popcaan
The Dogg’s Lion’s latest is so much fun to listen to, even if you aren’t a fan of his new avatar’s music. Snoop recognises that reggae is the flavour of 2013, and he lays one down for fans of reggae and herb. Snoop’s playing Pune on Friday, and this one’s sure to get people’s lighters out and up in a show of unity.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Five at 5, with another NH7 writer on the decks.
