Portland indie hero and singer-songwriter M. Ward will make his first visit to India this March, to support the multiple Grammy award-winning songstress Norah Jones on her tour of the country. In addition to playing A Summer’s Day festival in Mumbai on March 3, Ward will play shows in New Delhi on March 5, and Bangalore on March 8.

Apart from being a solo musician with eight full-length albums to his credit (most recently, 2012′s critically-acclaimed A Wasteland Companion), Ward is also one half of indie pop and folk duo She & Him along with actor/songwriter Zooey Deschanel, and a member of the formidable indie supergroup Monster Of Folk, with Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Ward is a prolific multi-instrumentalist, having contributed to past releases by Cat Power, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis, Beth Orton, and My Morning Jacket, and having joined many of these acts on tour in the past.

Known for merging a new-world folk sound with a healthy nod to blues, country and pop of old, and subject matter that ranges from the deeply personal to the observational to the political, Ward’s genius as a songwriter cannot be understated. Fans of Ward’s solo music from early on often make comparisons to the works of Neil Young, Tom Waits, and Brian Wilson, and a listen through Ward’s diverse catalogue of music (his Soundcloud is loaded, here), both solo and in other projects, is fairly credible testimony for even the pickiest of indie fans.

M. Ward and Norah Jones are no strangers to each others’ music. Ward featured on ‘Sinkin’ Soon’ off Jones’ 2007 release Not Too Late, and on ‘Blue Bayou’ off Jones’ 2010 album …Featuring, and the two musicians have toured together in the past. Ward is looking forward to his first trip to India, and had this to communicate,

“My band and I are beyond excited and honored to get a chance to see and perform in India in the springtime 2013. This will be our first time in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.”

Tickets to the shows featuring Norah Jones and M. Ward are officially on sale, and can be purchased here, and through Bookmyshow.com. Check out this video of M. Ward performing ‘Fuel On Fire’ off 2005′s Transistor Radio, live on Later With Jools Holland.
