Pigeons have a bad reputation, and visual storyteller Shilo Shiv Suleman is out to change that. Watch her tell us about the making of NH7 Kabootar, a mail van at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Bangalore, that allowed fans to show some love to their favourite artists.
On December 15, a brilliantly painted tempo made its way through the city of Bangalore to the Bacardi NH7 Weekender at the Embassy International Riding School, Yelahanka. The tempo, dubbed the ‘NH7 Kabootar’ by designer Shilo Shiv Suleman, was her interpretation of a mail van, which allowed fans at the Weekender to send messages on postcards to their favourite artists. The postcards would then be collected and dispatched to the musicians.
“Pigeons just have such a bad reputation these days,” Shilo said in an earlier interview. “They’ve fallen from their place of glory as the messengers of the gods. They used to be quite cool, now they have nothing to do except cluck around.” With the Kabootar, Shilo reminisces of a time when pigeons used to be harbingers of good news and carry letters from lovers.
