Mumbai will get its share of wintry blues this February with the return of the Mahindra Blues Festival.
Mumbai will get its annual and much-needed dose of the blues this February, when the Mahindra Blues Festival comes to town again. This year’s edition will see another great lineup of bluesmen/blueswomen, including Jimmie Vaughan & The Tilt A Whirl (with the Grammy award-winning brother of the legendary SRV, and Double Trouble founder Lou Ann Barton), electric blues artist Poppa Chubby, Walter Trout & The Radicals, and previous MBF performer, pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, who will be here with his outfit, Robert Randolph and The Family Band.
Previous editions of the Mahindra Blues Festival (2011 notes, 2012 gallery) have seen performances by blues icons such as Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker Jr., the Matt Schofield Trio, and the Taj Mahal Trio, and even though this year won’t see Buddy Guy playing his strat with his teeth or walking through the crowd making some random lady pluck strings while he plays a solo (remember One Tree Music Festival?), there is a whole lot of blues on offer over the course of the weekend. Delhi’s Big Bang Blues and Shillong’s Soulmate are also on the bill for the festival, adding to what already looks like a fantastic lineup.
Playing host to the festival once again, will be Bandra’s Mehboob Studios, hosts of the highly-successful Live From The Console series of shows and widely regarded as one of the better venues for live music in the city, with ample space, good sound (if configured right), and a location bang in the middle of Mumbai’s rich suburbia, home to the people who would imaginably form most of the festival’s target audience.
The Mahindra Blues Festival 2013 will take place on Feburary 16 and 17, 2013. Check out the full lineup for the festival below.
The festival, this time around, will also have a workshop on Chicago-style blues slide guitar and Mississippi Delta blues by guitarist Michael Messer. Last year’s festival was documented on video, and a DVD can be purchased here. Also, you can listen to some of the live performances from the 2012 edition; buy the album off iTunes here)
Tickets for the Mahindra Blues Festival 2013 will be available at www.bookmyshow.com, and more details should be on their official website soon. Check back on NH7.in for more coverage in the run-up to the Mahindra Blues Festival 2013.
