The final stop for India-German mela will be in Pune and it’s going out with a bang. Expect ten days of music and culture in the form of performances, workshops and exhibition, and much more.
The Indo-German Urban Mela kicks off in Pune, the final stop on its five-city tour, on January 11, 2013 and ends on January 20. The innovative, ten-day mela covers a blend of various topics which fit under broad categories such as Art, Culture, Economics and Politics. The theme of the mela has been ‘StadtRaume-City Spaces’ and is part of the ‘Year of Germany and India’ ongoing celebrations titled “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”, to celebrate 60 years of friendship between the nations of India and Germany. The Indo-German Urban Mela will take place at the Deccan College Ground in Yerawada, Pune, and is completely free for all people.
This time around, look out for performances by indie artists such as the Midival Punditz, Shaa’ir + Func, The Raghu Dixit Project, Agnee and Dualist Inquiry. Other artists include Berlin-based DJ Ipek, who will perform a special ‘Battle Of The DJanes’ with Pune-based DJ Ma Faiza, and German mult-instrumentalist Rico Loop, who will also conduct a workshop on his live-looping music. There will be workshops on hip-hop dance (with Justine Bhatt), on theatre (with Vibhawari Deshpande) and on storytelling (with Jeeva Raghunath) as well. Joyston Vaz and his team will be working on some graffiti pieces during the festival, and GRIPS Theatre will be performing their innovative children’s play Nayee Bahar. We’ve got plenty more on the Indo-German Urban Mela in Pune coming up so watch this space.
