The Carnatic guitar virtuoso will be performing in Bangalore and New Delhi this month. A secret Mumbai gig might also be in the works as well.
Baiju Dharmajan (ex-Motherjane, ex-Wrenz United) launched his solo album The Crossover (more about it here and here) earlier this year. This was the guitarist’s first solo release, not counting his collaboration with electronica producer Karsh Kale, and Njeralathu Harigovindan (a percussionist who is a master of the edakka drum and runs the world’s only temple devoted to percussion) for the song ‘Sacred Science’ (more about it here) and his ‘cover’ version of the Indian national anthem. The guitarist will now be touring Bangalore and New Delhi through December to promote his solo album.
The tour will commence in Bangalore from Friday, December 7, where the guitarist will conduct a workshop at the Bangalore Furtado’s (want to play like Baiju? Here’s a handy bunch of guitar tabs the guitarist released not too long ago), and will go on to see him perform at The BFlat Bar in Bangalore on Saturday, December 8. The guitarist will then perform at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore, with the Midival Punditz at the Eristoff Wolves Den (get your tickets here). The performance will take place on Sunday, December 16. The guitarist had also accompanied the Punditz for a song at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Delhi, in October for a very well-received set (report here). Dharmajan will then perform in New Delhi, or more accurately, in the National Capital Region, with a concert at the Powerplay Sports Bar in Gurgaon on Saturday, December 24 featuring Susmit Sen of Indian Ocean as well, and will also hold a workshop on Sunday, December 23, at Furtado’s in Delhi. The venue for the workshop has not been announced yet. Apart from this, if Facebook comments on the guitarist’s official Facebook page are to be believed, he is planning a secret concert/workshop/thing(?) in Mumbai on December 21. Check out a screenshot with the statement below.
The guitarist will also be playing at Kerala’s first music festival, God’s Own Music Festival, early next year (details here).
