Aazin Printer’s crowdfunding initiative is an effort towards recording and releasing his debut solo album, The Original Mr. Printer.
Ex-Something Relevant vocalist Aazin Printer plans to release his debut solo album, The Original Mr Printer, in January 2013, and is looking to crowdsource funds to help his effort. Crowdsourcing has becoming a trend of late in the indie music community, with gigs and albums being funded by contributors on websites like Wishberry.in (remember Control ALT Delete? Oh, you don’t? Check out our recap, counterpoint, video, and gallery). Printer has made an elaborate pledge and statement about his Wishberry initiative on his official Wishberry page.
NH7 spoke with Mr. Printer about what he’s been up to for the last few months, and how the idea of crowdfunding an album came about.
Basically, over the last ten months, I’ve been shooting and assisting on a lot of ad and film work. A lot of pople, during this period, have been asking me when I plan to record an album and they’ve said they are keen to hear the new sound. So, I’ve decided to take a break from cinematography and do the album. I’m working on the songs right now and there are a lot of different ideas floating about. It’s gonna be a massive collaboration; I can’t reveal much, but it will definitely be a slow process.
The reason I decided to use crowdfunding is because if I manage to pull this off, I’ll be one of the first musicians in the country to get an album funded this way. The truth is that everybody doesn’t have the required resources; not everyone is loaded and can afford their own studio. Crowdfunding is a great avenue for people who want to put out a record but don’t have the necessary resources. There’s a certain honesty in trying to put out a record this way, and if this works out, it will be proof that it’s possible. This is a task, a massive process, and an honest way of going about it. And at the end of the day, it’s also a great way to get some publicity and PR.
If things go according to plan, we can expect The Original Mr. Printer to release early next year. If you’d like to contribute towards Mr. Printer’s cause, and you should (support the scene yo!), head over to his Wishberry page and show him some love.
