The band will also embark on a release tour to support the EP, kicking off with a set at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune.
The bass-heavy electronic project of Rohit ‘P-Man’ Pereira and Manas Ullas, ViceVersa will release their debut self-titled EP for free download on NH7.in this month. The six-track EP features new material that the band hasn’t previewed on their Soundcloud account yet. Produced by the “unofficial third member” of the band, Ayan De (more about how he produces here), the EP will be promoted with a nationwide release tour that will kick off at the upcoming edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune (tickets).
“Manas does the beats,” explains P-Man. “Then Manas and I sit on the track and add more layers or ideas or melodies, after which we take it to Ayan, our unofficial third member, who does the embellishments and spicing.” ViceVersa first appeared on our radar almost exactly a year ago, and since then have been regularly dropping new tunes on Soundcloud including collabs with Bombay rock regulars like Sidd Coutto and Siddharth Basrur. “Lyrics, mostly I do,” says Pereira, “And at times I know that a particular track needs another personality, another character on it, and I approach my awesome musician pals to do vocals. Out of them, if it’s Sidd Coutto, then I dont even tell him what to do. I think being awesome comes naturally to him.”
Scenesters will recall that P-Man is also the frontman of alt-metal act Khiladi, and was also the bassist of Bombay metal biggies Pin Drop Violence. How is the writing process for ViceVersa different from his metal projects, you ask? “Songwriting is more or less the same as what I did with Khiladi or PDV,” says Pereira. “That is how I think music.” The band previewed the songs ‘The Warning’ and ‘Day Out’ (“The song was so sweet that we had to put it out for the people to hear it”) from the EP on Soundcloud earlier this year (streams below), and will also release remixes/remasters of four previously released tracks as bonus tracks on the EP.
ViceVersa will head out on tour all of November in support of the release of the EP. “Doing gigs with ViceVersa is the biggest fucking relief ‘coz I carry no fucking bass guitars,” laughs P-Man. A few dates have been announced for the tour, though we are promised more. Watch this space.
