Sahil ‘The Demonstealer’ Makhija has announced his new heavy/glam/hair/old school metal project. The band is called Hellwind and features Akshay Deodhar (of Spook) on vocals, Rajarshi Bhattacharyya (ex-Workshop) on guitars, Kiron Kumar (ex-Colossus) on guitars, Aditya Kadam (Workshop) on bass and Makhija (Demonic Resurrection, Reptilian Death, Workshop) on drums.
We got in touch with Makhija to find out more about the band
I had created a short-lived power metal project in 2001 called Ravendark and that never took off. Riju Dasgupta (of Albatross) knew about this and he had sort of been trying to get that project back on. He got together with Deodhar and decided to form Ravendark again and roped me in as a drummer and I was all for it because I wanted to indulge in sort of more chilled-out, groovy drumming. It was when we started jamming that we sort of realised that we had less to do with power metal and more with the heavy metal and hard rock so we decided to change the name and call ourselves Hellwind.
We did start composing originals and are going to start gigging soon but Riju (Dasgupta) had a lot of other commitments and decided he couldn’t be a part of the band so we got Kadam on board. The band will be playing originals but have decided that we will also do a lot of fun pop rock covers in our own style. There is a gig in the works right now, we’ll let you know as soon as it is confirmed.
The band has already released a single titled ‘Taste Of Metal’, you can stream it below.
You can follow the band’s Facebook page and watch this space for more updates from the band.
