The prog metal giants are playing on our doorstep on May 2, 2012.
Dream Theater have announced their tour for their 2011 studio album A Dramatic Turn Of Events, but sadly they don’t have any dates in India. However, the closest these prog rock dudes will get to our shores will be Singapore at Kallang Theatre on Wednesday, May 2 at 7.30pm. This is not the first time the band have performed in Singapore – they’ve played there before in 2006, 2008 and 2011.
25 years on, their 11th studio album marks the recording debut of drummer Mike Mangini. Last year, the band received their first ever Grammy nomination for their single ‘On The Backs Of Angels’ in the category for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance (note: this was a nine minute song that was up for the nomination). Originally started by John Petrucci (lead guitar), John Myung (bass), and Mike Portnoy (drums), the band has gone through many lineup changes. Since 2010, the original members remained together with lead singer James LaBrie and keyboardist Jordan Rudess till founder Mike Portnoy left in Sept 2010, and was replaced by Mike Mangini on drums. So the lineup coming to Singapore is James LaBrie (vocals), John Petrucci (lead guitarist), John Myung (bassist), Jordan Ruddess (keyboards) and Mike Mangini (drummer).
Performing as a special guest is guitar-fiddler Andy McKee, who’s finger style has become YouTube folklore with views in excess of 100 million. At one point he held the #1, #2 and #3 positions for Top-Rated Videos of All Time on YouTube.
Tickets are available online and they’re priced at $168, $148, $128, and $98 ($3 booking fee applies). For more ticket detials, go here.
