New Delhi fusion rockers Advaita launched their sophomore studio album The Silent Sea, at the Blue Frog, Mumbai on Wednesday, Feb 22. From an average-sized audience, the numbers at the venue grew as the band took stage. The band played the entirety of the new release in the order of the tracklist, and returned on stage for an encore upon the insistance of their producer Shantanu Hudlikar, playing ‘Ghir Ghir’ and ‘Durga’ from the first album, Grounded In Space.
The gig began a little later than the scheduled time, and didn’t quite kick off as the band would have liked it to; faced with some sound issues just a couple of seconds into the intro of the set opener, ‘Dust’. The band, however, found stable ground into the second song and the gig really took off by the third track, ‘Meinda Ishq’. Advaita was clearly looking to impress, this being their album launch after all and their first full set at the venue since April 2011 (report), and every member of the eight-man-strong act was on form on the night.
Fairly odd for the Lower Parel venue, the sound production of the entirety of the gig was below par and made for a disappointing experience in parts; leaving one wishing the gig had better sound, considering it was an album launch. Most of the band seemed a little nervous initially, but the entire gig was like a journey, with the artists growing more and more comfortable as the evening’s proceedings progressed. Much banter, acknowledgements and sound adjustments later, we had a new album.
We interviewed the band last year about the album. Check out what they had to say here.
