“They dress up gangster, they dare to impersonate Arnold and the Zohan, they terrify random sheep and better yet, they’re four people who make good music and have an even better time while doing it.”
Modern Mafia’s Facebook info page opens with these lines. Suffice to say, it qualifies for kvltiness. The band is currently working on their debut EP, titled Random Sheep. It’s a little difficult to take their obsession with Arnold ’Arnie‘ Schwarzenegger (coincidentally, he is in India right now) seriously, even though their first single (as linked earlier) is dedicated to him, and they also try to dress a bit like him. MM were also one of the top eight bands shortlisted to open for Metallica last year. They did not win.
The video for their single ‘Daylight’ is unimaginative, monochrome-d, with hints of nervousness, and is mostly predictable. It’s a standard, cliched rock band video, with it’s insider-peek-at-a-jam-session-where-the-band-members-are-all-laughing-at-their-own-jokes type thing. Attempts at putting the drummer into a box, and other ‘hilarious’ situational antics still failed to make the video interesting. It will do nothing to brighten a dull afternoon at work.
However, on further inspection, you will notice that the song features cheese-factor lyrics like, “All that you need is inside you. Who you are is inside you”, or even words that could have been penned by an eight year old, “We walk on the sand. I hold your hand.” The band has the potential to be especially kvlt. Let’s give it time.
