The fusionistas, Remember Shakti, are back and plan to tour six cities across the country during the month of February. Their performances bring together Hindustani classical, Carnatic music and jazz.
Initially the brainchild of British jazz guitarist John McLaughlin and virtuoso tabla player Zakir Hussain, Shakti was one of the early pioneers of world fusion music. However, Shakti was disbanded in the late 1970s, till McLaughlin and Hussain reformed the band. The current lineup now consists of John McLaughlin on guitars, Zakir Hussain on tabla, U Srinivas on mandolin (who replaced bansuri player, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia in 1999), V Selvaganesh (who replaced ghatam/mridangam player, T.H. ‘Vikku’ Vinayakram in 1999) and Shankar Mahadevan on vocals for the band since 2001.
Ticket prices are at Rs 750, Rs 1000, Rs 2000, Rs 3000 and Rs 5000, which are available at BookMyShow.
