Sitar player and composer, Anoushka Shankar will be performing live in seven cities in India over this month and early bits of February. She has released five studio albums, including a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist and producer Karsh Kale, scored two Grammy nominations in the World Music category, toured extensively across the globe and played alongside her father, Pt. Ravi Shankar. She is touring India in support of her new album, Traveller.
Traveller has been recorded across the world, taking in influences of several kinds, primarily flamenco and Indian classical music. The album is on the Deutsche Grammophon record label, and has been produced by Javier Limón.
Shankar has played in the country several times before. In 2009, she toured alongside Jethro Tull, followed by two dates at Blue Frog, Mumbai and the Dover Lane Music Festival in Kolkata (more on that here). The current tour, split into two parts is divided between the Vh1 Handpicked Traveller Tour (for Mumbai and New Delhi) and just the Traveller tour.
Tickets for Mumbai and New Delhi can bought here, and range from Rs 500 t0 3,000 and tickets for the Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata shows can be bought here, and range from Rs. 500 to 10,000.
