With the assistance of the British Council’s Soundpad and Sony Music’s Folktronic, Troikala is the union of Bengali percussionist Bickram Ghosh, Assamese folk singer Papon (of Papon and the East India Company), and Scottish singer-songwriter Rachael Sermanni. They will be collaborating from December 2011 till May 2012 to put together an album and a performance in both New Delhi and Kolkata. The group aims to bring their diverse musical backgrounds together, to create some innovative new folk music.
Bickram Ghosh had this to say about the collaboration.
This concept allows us to explore our talent to create a unique sound. Rachel Sermanni and Papon are great artists and when the three of us get together, we plan to introduce interesting musical concepts, by merging each of our unique perspectives, which will come together as one awesome sound in the end.
