Workshop to Reunite in January 2012

The Mumbai comedy metal band are back together for their first gig to kick off the new year. Also, Demonstealer reveals the identities of the mystery lead guitarist and bassist here!

The year 2012 sees Workshop reunite and play a gig at Blue Frog, Mumbai. The band is a project of Sahil Makhija aka Demonstealer (of Demonic Resurrection fame) and it disbanded earlier this year when bassist Riju Dasgupta (of Albatross) quit the band (more details on that here). Workshop will play at Blue Frog, Mumbai on January 8, 2012 but the new lineup has not been announced (till now, read on).

Demonstealer released this statement about the decision to reunite

The decision to disband was just something we did because we were really down and out with Riju leaving the band. This year has been particularly terrible for me personally and it just felt like the right thing to do at the time. However, later on I realized that music was the one thing in my life that I never gave up on, so it made sense to not give up on something I’d invested so much into, and that is why Workshop is back.

Apart from the decision to reform and play this gig, the band is also looking for an opening act for the show. The criteria for this new band is explained best by Hamza Kazi of Workshop

We’re looking for a band that is fun, we don’t care if they are metal, punk, disco, jazz, or fusion. The essence of our music is fun and humor, and we want a band that brings that vibe to the show, not to mention good music, and the ability to kick some ass on stage. We want to give new bands a shot because we know how hard it is for bands to get good shows, so hopefully we’ll have a kickass band opening the gig for us.

Mail your demos to open for Workshop to workshopband@gmail.com. The opening band will also get paid for playing the gig. We caught up with Makhija to find out more about who Workshop’s new bassist and guitarist are

After we disbanded, we all took a step back, and we all saw that this was still a project worth keeping on. We had already met Aditya Kadamb, the bass player. We had heard about him, and he had been recommended by a few people when we were originally looking for people. We called him in and jammed with him, and he was an amazing bass player. We said to ourselves, ‘We’ve got someone who is an amazing bass player now, so let’s make this happen’… Lead guitar is still Devesh Dayal from Goddess Gagged. He had already joined the band and we even did one show with him when Riju was still in the band. So, Devesh was always there in the band.
