Titled ‘Classic Incantations – The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg performs AR Rahman’, the orchestra will play their rendition of AR Rahman compositions between January 20, 2012 and January 29, 2012. The German Film Orchestra Babelsberg, and Indian cinema, will both celebrate their centenary year and this tour is also meant to honour the historic friendship between India and Germany.
Singers from AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory, Chennai as well as prominent soloists will join the orchestra for performances in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. The music will be arranged and composed by London-based composer Matt Dunkley (who has been a conductor and orchestrator for films like Black Swan, Moulin Rouge, The Dark Knight and Inception to name a few). The tour is being presented by Lapp India with inputs from the Goethe Institut and Max Mueller Bhavan.
AR Rahman released a statement about the upcoming tour
I am really thrilled and grateful for this gesture to the project ‘Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities’, the Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg for doing this tour in India, along with our singers from the KM Music Conservatory. I’m sure this will be a new experience for lovers of music scores in India. It will give them a great opportunity to experience and witness how many musicians come together in creating these huge scores. Hopefully, it will motivate and inspire younger artists to become orchestral musicians.
