Kochi alt-rockers Motherjane recently announced that their show on December 3 will be frontman Suraj Mani’s last gig with them. The band will play their last show with Mani at the South Asian Bands Festival in New Delhi. Citing health issues, and intensified back problems, Mani has decided to let the music be, and suggested the band go ahead without him.
Suraj Mani made the announcement via his Facebook page, to plenty fan reactions. Mostly disappointing.
It is with great sadness that I announce that I have been experiencing intense pain after shows and after getting to the root of it, I’m left facing a damaged backbone and possible surgery. I’m on painkillers, physiotherapy and numb with the realization that December 3, Delhi will be my last live performance for an extended period due to the serious nature of this injury. I have told my Motherjane family they need to begin the search for my replacement as the music of Motherjane is meant to be experienced live. I can only trust in God & his plans for me, I will be continuing my writing and composing as music will always be a part of my life. Love you all. Always have. Always will.
The facepaint specialists recently played the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, closing Day 3 at the Bacardi Black Arena to a packed audience despite the Bacardi Together Stage having kicked off proceedings with the finale performance of the festival.
Around a year ago, Baiju Dharmajan, former lead guitarist of the band, quit amidst a lot of interwebz drama, and then issued an official statement as well. Since then, the band has released very little material, but have paid to tribute to Anna Hazare, with this video. Dharmajan features in an upcoming episode of The Dewarists alongside Indo-American producer and musician Karsh Kale, and Hari Govind.
