Draped in a black and white sari, Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter Imogen Heap took everyone’s breath away with her breathy falsetto crooning at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender. She was unassuming, slightly shy, and you couldn’t help but warm to her. Heap was accompanied by flautist Ashwin Srinivasan and Ian Brudge on cello along with her own grab bag of percussion and sound effects. She discovered them in London when they performed with Nitin Sawhney (she mentions that she “crumbles” and “cries” every time she sees them perform). Her songs were particularly authentic to her studio sound even though many of her songs had synthesised vocal effects and a lot of ambient sounds. She introduced her wrist microphones which captured the squeaks, tinks, bells and whistles she made.
The main highlights of her set included ‘Minds Without Fear’ where she was joined by Pentagram frontman Vishal Dadlani, and one of her most popular tracks ‘Hide and Seek’.
During her performance, she split the crowd into three sections and made them all sing harmonies. Though most people couldn’t follow, they all tried their best to join in and help her sing acapella. Day three was closed with her breaking out into a mean keytar solo sporting a pair of completely white shades.
Imogen Heap will be on tour in India next week. Check out her dates here.
