The second edition of our very own music festival, the Bacardi NH7 Weekender kicked off yesterday, November 18 at Laxmi Lawns near Magarpatta City in Pune. Two stages were active on the day – the Eristoff Wolves Den (which featured the night’s headlining performance by Felix Buxton of Basement Jaxx) and the Pepsi Dub Station.
The Pepsi Dub Station featured performances by a host of reggae, dubstep and drum and bass acts including Reggae Rajahs, NZ Selector and Ox7gen (check out a full report of the action at the Pepsi Dub Station here). The Eristoff Wolves Den was kicked off by Mumbai electro-rockers Sky Rabbit, and saw performances by the likes of Dualist Inquiry and Midival Punditz (full report here) including the night’s headliner, Felix Buxton of Basement Jaxx (check out a report of his set here).
Some highlights from the day
- Bling Uncle dropped by nice and early and ensured that punters at the Eristoff Wolves Den were creeped-out and entertained in equal measure. Full interview with Bling Uncle soon.
- NZ Selector took a quiet Pepsi Dub Station and turned it into a monster worthy of Reggae Rajahs to conquer. The New Delhi soundsystem played the most high-energy set of the stage, replete with freebie flinging and crowd screamalongs.
- Dualist Inquiry played an infectious sundown set at the Eristoff Wolves Den, building on the cheery, upbeat vibe created by Sky Rabbit before. The New Delhi resident seemed incredibly comfortable at his first ever outdoor festival set, and the crowd responded appropriately.
- Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy of Scribe set up two vampire scarecrows at the Flea Market (who he calls Karan-Arjun) and posed for photos with punters through the evening. It was a curious mix of scary and cute that worked well for the Mumbai hardcore band.
- Midival Punditz played, for us, the best set of the day. Similar to their bass-heavy set at the Eristoff Invasion Festival earlier this year, the electronica giants destroyed the Eristoff Wolves Den with some excellent mixes of everyone from Black Sabbath to Rage Against The Machine. The collaboration with Monica Dogra and Humble The Poet (the song performed features in an upcoming episode of The Dewarists) was electric. “How do you like them apples?” asked Gaurav Raina at the end of the set. A lot.
