Randolph Correia is a member of two of perhaps the most inventive acts in the country today, Mumbai electro-rockers Pentagram and Shaa’ir + Func. Besides playing the guitar, Correia also DJs under the moniker FUNCinternational and brings that twist to the sounds of the bands he’s a part of.
Correia’s guitar playing is masterful, with some ingenious riffs (ref Pentagram’s Bloodywood) and variations he brings to the table (ref Shaa’ir + Func’s Mantis). His guitar playing has evolved to a signature style over the years. He uses a variety of Gibson guitars. Within the Gibson SG range he uses the GT (which is a special edition guitar), the 61 Reissue, Raw Power and the Zoot Suit. He also uses an ES 339 and a Les Paul Classic Custom.
We spoke to Correia about the guitars he uses
The Gibson guitar builds are really good, you know. They have a feeling to them, which makes them sound familiar, because of the rock n’ roll we’ve grown up (listening) to, but also help in creating edgier sounds. I use the SG for Shaa’ir + Func; it’s versatility helps a lot. And for Pentagram, I use the Les Paul; its chunky. Man, I just love these guitars.
