Pop rock musician Ankur Tewari is more a singer-songwriter, than just the frontman of Ankur & The Ghalat Family. Tewari writes poetic, memorable lyrics about love and women; an upbeat, accessible pastiche that’s incredibly catchy and irresistibly singalong-ish. Besides fronting a rock band, Tewari is also an actor (in the film Soundtrack along with bandmate Sidd Coutto, as well as Slumdog Millionaire and Luck By Chance), a film director and a script writer.
When you first meet him, Tewari comes across a little serious, maybe even intimidating. However, after regular interaction, you will see a man who is calm, relaxed, thoughtful and considers the guitar to be, as he puts it, “an extension of my soul.” He has a quirky sense of humor, which is reiterated when he calls his Gibson Hummingbird the ‘Fat Bastard’ and the Gibson J185 Acoustic, the ‘Mummy Guitar’. Talking about his current guitars, he tells us
All my life I had been playing untuned, battered and bandaged guitars, till I got my hands on the Gibson magic boxes. I found a new tone, and am developing a new style with these guitars. Every day is a new discovery with my Gibson duo.
Bandmate and drummer, Sidd Coutto uses two Gibson guitars as well (more on that here). More from a Gibson fanboy tomorrow. As always, stay tuned.
