The song is called ‘Paradise’ and it’s a Coldplay song (off their new album Mylo Xyloto), so starting off with shots from the plains of Africa isn’t entirely unsurprising. The first few seconds of the video are fairly standard shots of an African countryside and then, without warning, we cut to a shot of guy in an elephant suit standing behind bars. All assumptions about this Coldplay video go right out the window, and that’s such a deliriously good feeling! The elephant suit man and his adventures are going to define the rest of this video but the absurdity of it all is what will inspire you to hit Repeat.
For some reason, the elephant suit man is an elephant in the zoo but once he breaks out he can freely roam amongst Londoners because to everybody else, he’s a guy in an elephant suit. There is something genuinely likable about the elephant suit man (remember: all fuzzy creature-suit-wearing people do not have to be cute and cuddly) and even on repeat viewings, he is still hilarious to watch. Analyzing this video any further robs it of its charm, but there is a unicycle involved and that alone can turn good videos into great videos.
