Iconic Bandra venue Mehboob Studios played host to the third edition of Live From The Console on Saturday, September 17. The lineup encompassed a variety of acts and genres, and comprised singer-singwriter KC Loy, Mumbai Hindi rock act Airport, electro-rock act Bombay Bassment and bassheads Bay Beat Collective who were accompanied by rapper Microphon3 and Rhys Sebastian D’Souza on the saxophone.
KC Loy’s performance was backed by a small band. Towards the end of his set percussionist Vivek Rajagopalan also joined him for a couple of tracks. The singer-songwriter belted out tracks in English, Hindi and a folk song in Marathi as well – a befitting progression for the next act. Hindi alt rockers Airport kicked off with their popular track ‘Raat’ (video here). They also debuted one new, yet untitled, track and the setlist also included the Roadies 8 theme song, ‘Yahaan‘. This was one of the best sets we’ve seen Airport perform in recent times (photos from past New Delhi and Pune gigs).
Electro-hop act Bombay Bassment took stage next and played an efficient set of material from a promised upcoming studio release. The quartet opened their set with ‘Bombay Blues’, the band also performed ‘Never Be The Same’ (video here); both tracks were part of their set at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender last year. Bay Beat Collective’s set began with a short instrumental piece by Rhys on the saxophone followed by Microphon3′s rap. The Mumbai bassbusters closed the night with a well received, high-energy set.
Side note: We spotted someone at the gig taking pictures with a Samsung Galaxy Tab! If you spot someone taking pics with an iPad/tablet/equivalent, send us a pic! Also, check out our crash course in gig photography etiquette.
