Watch: ‘Classroom’ – Prithibi

A kvlt video from a kvlt-er Bangla band? Yes, please!

“Fix it in post” is an all-too-commonly heard adage in the digital age we live in. When confronted with a  problem on-location, the easiest solution is to ignore it completely and leave some hapless post-production guy to deal with the mess later. Bangla rockers Prithibi have clearly subscribed to this theory in their video for the forlorn ballad, ‘Classroom’. Music video directors have long grappled with the problem of electric instruments out in the field (see: Rock Machine’s ‘Top Of The Rock’ for an early desi example). Strumming unplugged electric guitars and basses out in a field or in a warehouse may look awkward, but what happens when the Production Department forgets to bring the instruments altogether?!?! You fix it in post.

Don’t let the rampant air-guitaring in ‘Classroom’ fool you. Prithibi takes themselves über-seriously. Peruse the band’s manifesto, reproduced from the official website:

Armageddon — Corruption –
Global Warming — Family Feuds
Social Unrest — Racism
Are only just a few of the dark clouds
which envelop the fading skyline
of the 21st century –
When darkness has almost engulfed
the light of the times
Emerge 6 Guys 6 Soldiers
Out to take on the world
Out to reform the society and
propagate a rush of blood
to the brain cells of the so called
cloned social animals.

They are not Gods they are
not kings but mere social beings who have stepped outside the parade of the brain
washed lot and taken up music
as their weapon of choice
to fight the evils of society –
they call them selves
Prithibi

¡Ay, caramba! That’s pretty much all the context you need to enjoy ‘Classroom’. Oh, and they didn’t fix it in post.
