Of late, we’ve reported several instances of indie links with Bollywood, beginning with Monica Dogra in Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat to Midival Punditz and Karsh Kale turning music directors for the film Soundtrack, and this. The latest crossover project sees folk-rocker Raghu Dixit (of The Raghu Dixit Project) stepping into Bollywood as music director for Yash Raj Films’ youth banner Y-Films’ backed Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (trailer here).
The video for the first song from the film, ‘Baatein Shuru’, was released today. The song has Shefali Alvares and Joi Barua, a recently popular playback singer, on vocals. Vijay Joseph of The Raghu Dixit Project is on guitars accompanied by Josy John (from Dixit’s previous band, Antaragini) on bass. The film’s scene links don’t stop there. Vocalist Saba Azad makes her Bollywood debut in the film as well. The video and the song however, are stereotypical nu-Bollywood, but we’ll reserve our review till when the film releases.
