Ankur Tewari, Agnee, Advaita Score GIMA Nominations

The indie acts face competition from indipop stars and Indian Idol winners.

The second edition of the Global Indian Music Awards recently announced a list of nominations. The eleven non-film music categories include Best Pop Album and Best Pop/Rock Single. Kailash Kher won the Best Pop Album last year for Chaandam Mein and Ankur Tewari‘s (pictured) debut album Jannat is up for the award this year against other names like Kavita Seth, Bindu Subramaniam (yes, the kvlt one) and Stereo Nation.

New Delhi fusion act, Advaita who are due to launch their second album later this year have been nominated for Best Pop/Rock Single for their track ‘Gorakh’. Hindi rock act Agnee have also scored two nominations in the same category for their songs ‘Aahatein’ and ‘Jee Lay Abhi’ (which features Shkabang frontlady Anushka Manchanda). The bands are pitted against Indian Idol 5 winner Sreeram and singer Raghav Sachar.
