Mumbai funk act Window Seat and alt-rockers Spook played the Blue Frog, Mumbai on Tuesday, July 26. Keeping in sync with the venue’s Two-Night series, both acts played different genres and pulled off a fairly good gig entertaining a sizable audience for a Tuesday night at the venue.
Window Seat sounded more funk than jazz and pulled off an energetic set. The instrumental act seemed on form on the back of some well-crafted keyboard and bass solos. Keys man, Tala Faral, also doubled on the saxophone and was specially riveting on the track ‘Camel Neck.’
Window Seat’s setlist
‘Intro’
‘Flies’
‘Stanley’
‘Boiling Point’
‘Nostalgie’
‘Madagascar’
‘Camel Neck’
‘Kala Ghoda’
Spook seemed far more confident than the last time we caught them (at the launch of their EP at the now-erstwhile Zenzi Mills). Perhaps the presence of friends in the audience and constant chants of “We want Timmy’” (directed towards stand-in bassist Timmy Verghese) helped the on-stage confidence. Rahul Hariharan of Bhayanak Maut played drums on the night and will be will the band for upcoming gigs as well. Sans the violinist, the band performed a memorable rendition of Chris Cornell’s rendition of ‘Billie Jean,’ a track that has Sonu Nigam moonwalking as well.
Spook’s setlist
‘The Way’
’3 Screwdrivers And A Bikini’
‘Winter Rain’
‘Now Imagine’
‘Truth’
‘Billie Jean’ (Chris Cornell cover)
‘Morning Coffee’
‘Use Somebody’ (Kings of Leon cover)
‘Stop Start’
‘Musings’
We’ve got some photos from the gig.
