Geriatric Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger has revealed details of a new supergroup. Titled Super Heavy, the lineup will feature slightly-less-geriatric Dave Stewart (formerly of The Eurhythmics), reggae artist Damian Marley, and soul singer Joss Stone. In a Captain Planet-ish move to showcase diversity, prolific Indian composer AR Rahman was also added to the lineup. Jagger spoke to the NME about the band’s rigorous selection process
Dave Stewart and I said to each other, ‘Let’s phone AR Rahman, he’s in town, that’ll be different’, then we had another continent involved.
The band has apparently been rehearsing and recording on and off over the past two years now, and have eighteen tracks recorded and mixed. An album is slated for release in September.
There are plenty of reasons to be pessimistic about Super Heavy – Jagger is no stranger to terribad collaborations. Recently adjudged the “gayest music video of all time” by the visionaries at Family Guy, check out David Bowie and Mick Jagger singing ‘Dancing In The Street’.
