Last year, we reported that Hindi rock band Airport had collaborated with evil-twin Raghu Ram to release a theme song for MTV India’s flagship reality television show, Roadies. The song was a key component in the eighth season of the production, charmingly titled Shortcut To Hell.

Here’s what Raghu Ram had to say about the importance of ‘Yahaan’ in the grand scheme of things.

For a lot of young Indians, Roadies stands for something. And we felt we owed it to them to give them a song that wasn’t just meant for the show, but that was the show! Most importantly, the song had to come from the same people who made the show…The sound, too, has evolved from the hummable canteen song that “Jeet lenge yaar” was, to something much more alive, edgier, and raw… in fact, much more ROADIES! Hope you like the song and accept it as your own, the way you have made the show your own. This is especially for you, straight from our heart. But even if this song doesn’t become your Roadies anthem, it’s okay. Because making this song was a journey we thoroughly enjoyed…

As young Indians, we’re pretty sure that Roadies is basically an extended exercise in crassness and masochism, but we’re also pretty sure that our opinion isn’t representative of a mainstream audience. The video, released by MTV early this year, chronicles the budding bromance between evil-twin Raghu Ram, not-so-evil-twin Rajiv Laxman, and Rannvijay Singh, who won the first edition of Roadies and currently hosts the show. The trio ride bikes, bungee jump, ride bikes, camp out, ride bikes, arm-wrestle random truck drivers, ride bikes, share tender moments at sunset, and then ride some more bikes (MTV Hero Honda Roadies). The song itself is a perfectly adequate theme to a decidedly lowbrow show – a clichéd ‘youth anthem’ that’s quite a bit less earnest than the band’s other work.

‘Yahaan’ is available for download on the MTV Roadies website.
