Chennai alt rock act Junkyard Groove announced it was disbanding and reforming all within the span of 24 hours.
In Web 2.0 fashion, the drama unfurled over social media yesterday. It kicked off early last morning with everyone in the band that’s not Ameeth Thomas announcing their departure via the band’s Facebook page.
Ladies & gentlemans….. We love the 6 years that u have given us, and we love you all. Although Junkyard Groove is a part of us, and will always be a part of us, we have to bid farewell….. This is not the end, but the start of something new…. Stay tuned…… love Siddharth Srinivasan, Jerry John, Craig Maxworth!!!!!
Ouch. Breaking up on Facebook seems to be very much in vogue; it was only a couple of days ago that Kochi band Wrenz United used their Facebook page to make a similar announcement. Worried JYG fans made desperate attempts to reach frontman Ameeth Thomas via Twitter, who claimed to have no knowledge whatsoever of his bandmates’ intentions. One such entreaty was met with this response
i honestly have no fucking idea i was not told about this and no one is picking up my calls
Double ouch. By the evening, Thomas seemed to have finally received independent confirmation of the split. He announced that a new lineup was in the works, failing which he would take up busking. A few hours later he announced the personnel changes – former member Hudstin Fernandez was back on drums, Sajith Satya would play bass, and Naveen Thomas Joseph would assume guitar duties. The Pat Smear of JYG, Naveen has played with JYG at a number of gigs, including during last year’s NH7 Weekender.
Junkyard’s Groove debut album, 11:11, is up for streaming on NH7. Check it out below.
