Jared Leto as Kurt Cobain

Song: ‘Pennyroyal Tea’
Original Artist: Nirvana
Cover Artist: Jared Leto

On the 17th (!) anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, actor/30 Seconds to Mars-guy Jared Leto released footage from an unreleased audition tape of himself as Cobain. It showcases all the cool stuff Cobain did – like play music and aimlessly throw around bricks in gardens. But yeah, Jared Leto looks pretty convincing – and this video raises the undying question of who should play Kurt Cobain in his biopic. Watch as he covers ‘Pennyroyal Tea’ and as one commenter accuses, “throws in ‘Rape Me’ for the ladies”.

Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra – ‘Under Cover of Darkness’

Song: ‘Under Cover of Darkness’
Original Artist: The Strokes
Cover Artist: Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra

Jingle Punks, a New York based music discovery/licensing company, debut their hipster orchestra with a cover of The Strokes’ new single ‘Under Cover of Darkness’. They turn garage rock into orchestral beauty with a string quartet, quite in the way Nouvelle Vague turns punk into bossa nova.
