Less than five months after guitarist Baiju Dharmajan quit Motherjane, his new band, Kochi alt rock act Wrenz United, have announced that Baiju has been nixed from the lineup. The ‘official statement’ came from the band’s Facebook page yesterday.
We hereby announce that Baiju Dharmajan will not be part of Wrenz United from today…new lineup coming soon
The terse nature of the update seems to suggest that it may have been the band that decided to let go of Dharmajan this time around. His primary complaint when leaving Motherjane was the extended “time gaps and spacing” between releases. It’s unlikely that he had the same problem with Wrenz, a band that recently released a less-than-riveting studio session video.
Comments from erudite Carnatic rock fans are already pouring in. Reactions range from anguish (“ayoo ,wat happend ..y did he quit”), to surprise (“WTFFFFFFF.. o.O), to WTF (“Baiju is a good navigator!”), to calls for the inevitable reunion (“no offence, wrenz or santosh, but fingers crossed for a motherjane reunion..”)
Baiju’s sudden depature from Motherjane in November came as a shock to their sizable fanbase. Although Santosh Chandran has since taken Baiju’s lead guitar slot in the band, a reunion isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Coincidentally, the Rolling Stone Metal Awards announced their judges list yesterday:
There are three possible explanations for this. A) Rolling Stone is privy to some inside info that we don’t have yet. B) Rolling Stone does poor research. C) Rolling Stone is psychic. We’re torn between B and C. Stay tuned for updates!
UPDATE: Rolling Stone has confirmed that they are not psychic as earlier suspected. The list that went up yesterday was of last year’s judges. #Fail regretted.
