Agnitray Chakrabarty, percussionist of Kolkata prog rock band 4.10, has released a tabla cover of Malayalam rock band Avial‘s hit ‘Nada Nada’. With the actual song used as backing track, the 23-year-old budding tabla maestro plays the track adding an extra percussive layer. The result is something that could have perhaps arisen out of spontaneity at a live collaborative performance, and brings with it the realization that the four-piece Kochi band could easily add a dimension to their music with additional percussion.
It’s always a good sign when a musician from Kolkata decides to cover a song in Malayalam, because it’s never been about the language anyway. Also, check out Kannur band The Down Troddence’s cover of ‘Ettam Pattu‘.
